History of SABOIA:
The name of Saboia is mentioned in the charter of March 28,1256, granted by King Afonso III to Odemira.
Its settlement is at least prior to the period of the reconquest, since the name of Saboia is one of the oldest in the county and is mentioned in the charter of March 28,1256, granted by D. Afonso III to Odemira, very similar to that of Beja, which was renovated and expanded by the monarch D. Manuel on September 5,1510.
For centuries, the local economy has been based on the production of wood and forestry, whose products were exported by the Mira River.
